COURSE DEVELOPMENT

As every year, Joan Lluís Bozzo, founder of Dagoll Dagom, together with Joan Vives, musical director and composer of many of the company's shows, are the pedagogical and artistic managers of the'Stage de Teatre Musical' which we will teach, with a team of more than 4 teachers, for the ninth consecutive year, and for the fifth year at the School Eolia Barcelona.

For two weeks, we will give the students the tools to face the challenge of combining performance, dance and singing with the aim of making a final performance for friends and family that shows the intense work they have done throughout of those days. The experience of the whole team in this field makes this option very interesting for boys and girls who have a special interest in musical theater.

The course is developed around daily core subjects of 45-50 minutes duration that help each group to prepare their final sample. Each group does the 4 different subjects every day with a rotation system. For this reason, we will divide the boys and girls into 4 groups by age, and each group will work on a different topic with their group and a common topic with the rest of the Stage participants.

The pieces will consist of individual and group text work, and an extensive piece of music linked dramatically. As every year, both the text and the songs will be extracted or adapted from the great shows that Dagoll Dagom has premiered throughout his long career in the musical theater of this country. This year we will work Saint John's Night, Mikado, Maremar and Sea and Sky. Each piece will be distributed among the students of the group, who will have to learn and memorize the dialogues, the lyrics, the music, the choreography and the stage movements with the help of the daily work with each teacher.

In the second week, at the end of each day we will dedicate the last moment to work on a choral song that will be performed by all the students of the course at the end of the show. It will be this year Welcome to my gray village, from the recent premiere The Joy that Passes.

We will dedicate the morning of Thursday, July 6th to general rehearsals in the Sala Sandaru where we will perform the final show the following day.

SUBJECTS

  1. Stage Direction with Jofre Borras

We will work on the montage as a whole and create balanced, coherent and linked scenes. We will try to give a dramaturgy to our theatrical fact and observe the scene from the global. This subject will serve us both from the specific point of view of the sketches of each group and from the general point of view of our final sample. In the management subject, the teacher will give us an external view of the work done in the other subjects in order to link it and give it coherence and cohesion.

  1. Music and song with Gerard Ibanez

We will work starting from the warm-up of the voice. We will learn to know our instrument and establish those techniques that allow us to work on the songs from the point of view of music starting from our natural voice, understanding it as a main tool for our theatrical expression. We will learn to understand the score and the directions given by the musical director in order to contribute to the group dynamics when performing our song. We will share and learn our musical phrases. We will learn to interpret the songs for our theatrical purpose: to transmit a message to the receiving audience. The Martha Munoz she is the pianist who will accompany the teacher and students the whole time.

  1. Interpretation with Paula Vives

We will learn to interpret from the truth in the spoken and sung text. We will work from the songs to find the essence of the character we play from an individual and group point of view. We will look for and work on tools that bring us closer to the search for truth in interpretation. We will work on the songs and the text from an interpretive point of view. We will do improvisations and work on theatrical exercises.

We will spend some time in our sessions analyzing the formal aesthetic aspect of our character and our group. We will talk about costumes and characterization and create the costume design and some set elements.

  1. Choreography with Bealia War

We will analyze the needs of the scene in the field of music and text. We will learn to warm our body so that we can have it free and ready to become one of the main tools of theatrical expression. We will learn and adapt the choreographies of the songs we will perform. We will learn the stage movements of our piece and we will do it always taking into account our characters and our theatrical purpose. We will introduce costume as an important part of our performance as it affects our physical and stage movements as well as our presence and body posture.
