ACADEMIC INFORMATION

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED FOR THE MASTER'S DEGREE

To take this master's degree, it is necessary to demonstrate previous knowledge of music and/or acting, stage direction and dramaturgy equivalent to the level MECCA 2, as established by Royal Decree 1027/2011. This guarantees that master's studies allow "the acquisition by the student of advanced training, of a specialized or multidisciplinary nature, oriented towards academic or professional specialization."

The master's degree does not establish distinct itineraries or specialties; all students follow a unique training path that integrates musical and dramaturgical. Differences in original training are compensated for through the admission process and, if necessary, with specific training supplements.


MUSIC GRADUATES

Music graduates in any specialty can access the master's degree. The most suitable profiles are those of Composition or Singing/Performing.
For other specialties, the following will be assessed:

  • Knowledge of techniques traditional and modern composition.
  • Skills in music computer software (sequencers, score editors).
  • Previous experience in musical creation in any field.
  • Interest in knowing the context of collaboration of works in the creation of Theatre

GRADUATES IN DRAMATIC ARTS

Graduates can access Dramatic Art in the specialties ofInterpretation (preferably Musical Theatre) or of Performing Direction and Dramaturgy.

Previous experience in musical theatre, whether creative, performing or management, will be valued.

Other university graduates who demonstrate advanced knowledge in music, dramatic writing, stage direction or musical theatre are also eligible to apply. They must prove this through their CV and documentary evidence.


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Students with: other undergraduate or graduate degrees, artistic or not, that have advanced knowledge in music, playwriting, stage direction or in the field of musical theatre, and who can prove it with curricular evidence. These students may be admitted as long as they demonstrate sufficient previous experience and knowledge, musical or theatrical, which can allow them to integrate into the academic process of the master's degree.

In all these cases, it will be necessary to pass the personal interview and the specific level test.


DIRECT ACCESS AND ACCESS WITH TRIAL

They have direct access:

  • Graduates of Higher Artistic Education in Music.
  • Graduates of Higher Artistic Education in Dramatic Art. They must take an interview and specific test:
  • University graduates (eg Degree in Musicology UAB, Performing Arts, Humanities...).
  • Other profiles that Accredit non-regulated experience or trainingProfile evaluation mechanisms.

To ensure that each applicant has the minimum requirements to take advantage of the master's degree, the following mechanisms will be applied:

  • Detailed analysis of the curriculum, which must include a minimum of two projects linked to music or theater.
  • Personal interview, intended to assess the level in the area least present in their original training.
  • Specific level test, with basic musical and dramaturgical exercises to ensure a minimum common denominator, for candidates without a Degree in Dramatic Art or Music.

In the event that the number of applications exceeds the number of places available, priority will be given to graduates in Music and Dramatic Arts.


ACCESS REQUIREMENTS

According to article 16 of the Royal Decree 1393/2007, of October 29, to access a master's degree you must:

  • Be in possession of a degree in EAS in Music or a degree in EAS in Dramatic Art (in the specialties of Interpretation or Stage Direction and Dramaturgy.)
  • Be in possession of a Bachelor's degree or a university degree
  • Be in possession of an official higher education qualification from the EHEA that qualifies the student to access an official master's degree in their country of origin.

Specific access requirements

Candidates with the following profiles can access the master's degree:

  • Music degree in any field
  • Degree in Dramatic Arts, specialisation in Interpretation.
  • Degree in Dramatic Arts, specialty Stage Direction and Dramaturgy.
  • Degree in Dramatic Arts, specialty
  • Higher degree in Dance, specializations in Performance or Choreography, or other higher artistic qualifications.
  • Other university degree qualifications, with professional artistic experience or associated artistic studies not completed.
  • Knowledge of English at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ​​(CEFR), or equivalent level.

In the event that the number of applications exceeds the number of places available, the award will be made according to a downgrade based on the following criteria:

In summary: The adequacy of previous studies is the first selection criterion. Next, the academic record, other academic merits, complementary official or unofficial studies, and artistic experience are considered.


ADMISSION COMMITTEE

The Admissions Committee is the body responsible for assessing applications. It is made up of the master's coordinators and two professors from the program: one from music and one from dramatic art.


ACCESS TEST

The master's degree - as has been made clear above - does not have a general specific test for all candidates; however, the Admissions Committee will conduct individual personal interviews to further assess the suitability of each candidate. Depending on previous experience, academic or professional, candidates will have to take the specific tests mentioned above.

* Practical skills are the skills directly related to artistic and technical creation – Professional skills are the transversal skills applicable in the work and collaborative environment, such as communication and project management – Research skills are the methodological and analytical skills to plan, research and reflect critically on the project.

Individual thesis: The same interdisciplinary objectives are applied to a single student, with the same competency alignment, without the need to differentiate roles. TFM in pairs: Each interdisciplinary objective must be differentiate by individual contribution, to guarantee individualized assessment. The records of the process (journal, portfolios, partial submissions) show the degree of achievement of each competency.

Interdisciplinarity and research: Any combination of disciplines (drama, music, performance, historical context) becomes an opportunity to demonstrate research skills, as it requires planning, analysis, application and critical reflection. – Evaluation and evidence: Written report, musical materials and libretto → practical and research skills: Public defense and dramatized reading → professional and practical skills: Tutoring follow-up and individual registration → ensures individual assessment in TFM in pairs.
