From July 1, 2026, the Master in Musical Theater Creation of the CSAD Musicians and Aeolian Workshop is a official master's degree, verified by AQU Catalunya and authorized by Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports of the Spanish State.

This means that it meets the legal and academic requirements to be part of the official university system.

In practice, this implies that:

  • It has official validity throughout Spain. The title is officially recognized.
  • It has passed an academic quality assessment process. In this case, the assessment was carried out by AQU Catalunya before its authorisation.
  • It allows access to doctoral studies, provided that the other academic requirements are met.
  • It is assessed in public examinations and competitions in accordance with applicable regulations, which does not always happen with the university's own master's degrees.
  • It is recognized within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), which facilitates its recognition in other countries, in accordance with the regulations of each one of them.

Like most university master's degrees, it lasts one academic year, divided into two semesters.

Classes are taught three days a week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, in the morning.

In addition to the academic requirements, professional experience related to the creation of musical theater will be assessed through a personalized interview, which will determine the suitability of each applicant.

Writing a musical requires many hours of dedication.

During the first semester you will acquire the theoretical and practical foundations to understand the history of musical theatre, learn about the most representative composers of the genre, structure the libretto of your musical, write song lyrics and understand the construction of melodies.

This learning involves a significant amount of independent work. Each week you will have to write lyrics, melodies, songs and develop the proposed exercises.

If you currently have little time to dedicate to the Master's degree, we recommend that you wait until you can fully commit to it.

It is not essential, but highly recommended.

The curriculum includes core subjects such as Representative composers of the genre i Composition, which work on concepts such as harmony, orchestration or modes.

If this content is completely unfamiliar to you, it is likely that you will have difficulty following some parts of the program.

The Master's degree is mainly aimed at qualified musicians, composers and musical theatre performers, so a basic musical training is assumed.

If you are a playwright, we may recommend that you take a course as a listener.

It is not essential, but it is very useful.

A significant part of the bibliography and work materials are not translated. During the course we will also watch shows and analyze song lyrics in their original language.

The Taller de Músics and Eòlia Centre Superior d'Art Dramàtic promote a Master's degree focused on the creation of musical theatre in Catalan.

It is not essential to speak Catalan, but it is important to know that classes are mainly taught in this language.

It is possible to register as listener.

Listeners can attend the subjects ofHistory of musical theatre, Dramaturgy of the musical I, Lettering workshop I, Representative composers of the genre, Song direction and in master classes.

The subjects Composition and deconstruction 1 and 2 are reserved exclusively for students enrolled in the full Master's degree; as well as the Master Final Project.

In any case, registration as a listener does not give the right to obtain the official title.

It is highly recommended.

The academic level is demanding and higher education tends to provide the maturity necessary to better take advantage of the content.

As a listener you will be able to attend classes, but it will be the teaching staff who will decide to what extent you can participate in the activities.

The Master is 100% in-person, as established in its verification report authorized by the Ministry.

Only two subjects —History of musical theatre i Representative composers of the genre— they may occasionally offer some online content, but in-person attendance remains mandatory.

The Master's degree begins at the beginning of October and ends at the end of May.

Registration will remain open until fifteen days before the start of the course.

The objective of the Master's is for each student to write a complete musical: a libretto accompanied by the song scores, ready to begin the pre-production process.

At the end of the course we organize a backer audition, a presentation before the evaluation panel to which we also invite professionals from the theatre production sector so that you can make your project known.

Since the Taller de Músics and Eòlia CSAD jointly promote this Master, their students regularly collaborate in these presentations.

Each student has a thirty minutes to present their project and show the most representative songs and/or scenes. Don't worry: in the subject Song direction We will help you prepare this presentation.
