El Campus de las Artes was born as a project in 2018 promoted by the University of Barcelona (UB) following a proposal from the CoNCA (National Council for Culture and the Arts) contemplated in its report "Higher education in the artistic field in Catalonia. Study and organization proposal – 2018".

Currently, several universities and the nineteen faculties and university or higher artistic education centers are part of the Campus de les Arts, together with the Faculty of Education of the University of Barcelona, ​​HANGAR (Visual Arts Production and Research Center) and the support of CoNCA (National Council for Culture and the Arts). These centers correspond to the areas of education determined from the first CoNCA report, without limiting the possible evolution of the whole to include new centers or areas of education.
